Job Description & Requirements:
The Poteau Daily News, published Tuesday through Saturday with a circulation of 4,500 and located in southeastern Oklahoma, is now taking applications for a full time General News Reporter/Photographer. We are seeking the right individual who believes in our commitment to a strong emphasis on local news coverage in LeFlore County. The successful applicant will have typing and photography skills; proofreading skills which include but are not limited to a command of grammar, writing and mechanical construction of the English language; copy editing abilities; computer generated page production layout abilities; organizational skills; a positive and enthusiastic attitude; and a strong work ethic. The successful applicant must be able to work well with members of the business community as well as the general public and elected officials. He or she will be ready to cover a variety of news happenings including area meetings and events, courthouse and police beat reporting and feature writing. A commitment to community journalism is essential. Being user-friendly with InDesign and Photoshop would be an advantage. Prior newspaper experience is helpful but not required as we are willing to train the right person.
