Lynn Martin Death Notice

Lynn Luther Martin, publisher of the Alva Review-Courier, died March 12, 2019. He was 77.
A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Alva High School auditorium, 501 14th Street, Alva, OK 73717.
Martin was born Sept. 11, 1941, in Springfield, Mo. In 1947, he moved with his parents to Rolla, Mo., where his father and partners put KTTR-AM on the air. After graduating from Rolla High School in 1959, Martin attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla and the University of Missouri at Columbia before earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.
He married Marione Elaine Derrickson on Feb. 1, 1963, in Licking, Mo. The couple made their home in Rolla where Lynn was news director at KTTR-AM. They moved to Alva in December 1968 after purchasing KALV-AM, which they operated until it was sold in 1988.
The Martins began publishing the Newsgram, a free publication, in 1971. On April 1, 1990, they bought the Alva Review-Courier. Lynn continued his interest in photography, purchasing a studio in Alva that he operated until illness forced him to retire.
He was a member of the College Hill Church of Christ in Alva, and a a longtime member of the Alva Kiwanis Club.
Lynn and Marione Martin were inducted into the Oklahoma Press Association’s Quarter Century Club in 2015.
Martin is survived by Marione, his wife of 56 years; daughter Marisa Dye and her husband Darrel of Ponca City; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters.
