Immediate opening for a news editor for the twice-weekly Grove Sun and its 24/7 website, www.grandlakenews.com, covering beautiful Grand Lake in northeast Oklahoma. This is a great opportunity for a reporter looking to help shape news coverage in a small newsroom of two staffers; a reporter or editor at a larger metro looking to escape the big city blues and get back to their journalism roots in a beautiful lake community; or for a recent college graduate looking to make their mark in the field of community journalism.
This candidate must be willing to juggle multiple beats, write stories for both web and print, take photographs, produce video reports for the web, and help organize news coverage. This candidate will work closely with the editor of the Grove Sun’s sister publication, the daily Miami (Okla.) News-Record, to cover government, courts, schools, features and much more for an area that is a recreation destination for the four-state region of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. We are looking for someone with strong knowledge of multimedia, as well as traditional print journalism skills.
• Knowledge of multimedia journalism such as how to update a website using a content-management system, how to shoot, edit and produce simple video stories, how to post stunning photo galleries, how to engage with an audience through social media tools.
• Knowledge of traditional print journalism skills, such as beat coverage, AP writing style, headline writing, photo caption writing, photography.
• Perform job duties and conduct self in accordance with company core values.
• Initiate and nurture effective, professional relationships with internal and external contacts.
Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Knowledge of a content management system for newsrooms is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or equivalent work experience preferred.
